Dembele back from injury as De Jong hits the treatment table

The Frenchman returned to training with the Barcelona squad after a long lay off

Barcelona are focused on recovery right now with several players having fallen injured at the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

One positive is that French forward Ousmane Dembele has begun training with the squad again, and he seems to be facing the final stretch before full recovery from his injury. The Frenchman suffered an problem in his right hamstring, which has ruled him out for the entire season so far.

Dembele is progressing so well that he may even be at Ronald Koeman’s disposal for Barcelona’s upcoming fixture against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday.

Contract extension standstill
Dembele is currently nearing the end of his contract with the Blaugrana, with his deal at the Camp Nou expiring in the summer of 2022.

As of yet, negotiations over a contract extension don’t seem to have gotten anywhere, and his departure from the club could be imminent, with the club taking a similar stance to that of Ilaix Moriba in that if the player is unwilling to renew, then he will not play.

De Jong picks up injury

Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong has also fallen due to injury, after his side’s game against Real Madrid on Sunday.

De Jong also has injured his right hamstring and details of when he may return are yet to be disclosed, although he is unlikely to feature in his side’s two upcoming fixtures against Rayo Vallecano and Alaves.
